Cleansing

February originates in the Latin word februa, which means “to cleanse.”

And the Roman month-long festival Februalia, a time of purification and atonement, also has its connections to the month.

So, as a celebration of this wonderful history, we thought we’d look at how we can utilise the power of cleansing.

social media

It’s always a good idea to go through your social media and cleanse your feed. Make sure you’re following those who make you happy. Be it accounts or hashtags, make it so mindless scrolling is a thing of the past. Don’t absorb negative energy, instead find joy in the content you see.

Go through your wardrobe and take that you don’t need to a charity shop or donation bin. It gets it out of your space, out of your hair and helps benefit others. A fine example of how looking after yourself can benefit others.

release negative energy

Write down all of those negative thoughts. Every one of them. Over an hour, a day or a week. Collate them all, put them in a fire-safe, outdoor container and set them alight. Do it with friends and make it a social event, let go of the negativity and step forward lighter.

cosy up with a book

We’ve seen an influx of people coming into our space, book in one hand and coffee in the other. It’s one of our favourite things to do, so we love when others do the same.

  • Women Talking by Miriam Toews
  • Giovanni’s Room by James Baldwin
  • Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo

use colour

Fill your space with colour, let it speak to you and warm your soul. Whether your happy colour is pink like Jess Slack, or blue like Jenny Dunlop, surround yourself with it. It makes you smile for a reason.
