Recognising that there was no permanent outlet for local makers to showcase their work in Liverpool City Centre, the MerseyMade founders began their mission of establishing a unique creative hub.
Many moons ago when working in retail, Vicky Gawith conceived the idea of MerseyMade and in 2019, founded the business. That year, Vicky asked her friend Jenny Dunlop, a well-established artist, if she would join her in bringing the MerseyMade vision to life. Vicky’s background in project management combined with Jenny’s expertise in the art world, made them a force to be reckoned with. They are now focussed on growing the vibrant and diverse community of creatives and aim to connect the MerseyMade artists and makers to a much wider audience.
We understand the importance of community. That’s why our people are at the heart of everything we do. MerseyMade is built on a foundation of inclusivity as we aim to provide a space where people are free to express their individuality and feel empowered to inspire one another. We are committed to flying the flag for local and independent businesses, from illustrators and designers to painters and potters and even bakers and chocolatiers!
We want everyone who enters our doors to feel part of the MerseyMade family, whether you’re an artist, maker, employee, regular coffee drinker, art lover or visiting for the very first time. MerseyMade is designed to be your home away from home!
Our fundamental mission is to empower local artists and makers from within our region. That’s why every MerseyMade maker is based within fifty miles of our postcode. When you shop with us, you know you’re supporting your local baker, crafter, illustrator, painter or even jeweller whilst never compromising on quality or craftsmanship.
MerseyMade currently showcases over one-hundred makers’ work and with that number growing, we can’t wait to see what the future holds for all our talented artists.
Aside from supporting both emerging and established artists and makers, we also see the importance of encouraging creativity. Over the past few years, it has become even more apparent that creativity is vital for good mental health. So, whether you’ve never picked up a pencil or the thought of painting terrifies you, our creative workshops and events are designed with you in mind.
From painting courses to creative writing sessions, candle-making workshops, comedy nights and evening wine-tastings, we aim to provide memorable and enjoyable experiences for every special occasion!
