Make a Uni House a Home

University is a big move. A new city (for many), a new home and a room with walls you’re not supposed to decorate.

The rules around making your space your own often lead to many just simply not trying to personalise their space. But it’s so important that you feel settled and calm in a room of your own. Because boring just won’t cut it with us, and even if you’re only in there for a year, your space can benefit your mental health, show visitors a glimpse into who you are and just ease your transition into uni life.

So, we’re here with the best tips and tricks to make your university house a home before we ourselves hit the floor at the University of Liverpool's Welcome Fair on Thursday 23rd September 2021. Taking place at Liverpool Guild of Students, 9am - 4pm, we'll be there with all of the best stock to help you transform your new space.

Framed Prints

Whilst we love Command Strips, we understand people’s apprehension when it risks losing a big deposit. The perfect alternative? Framed prints. Pop them on your shelves and stress not about your walls being marked. Photos of Liverpool, song quotes, animal illustrations, we stock it all. It’s the perfect way to add a bit of personality to a room.

Blankets

University accommodation is notoriously ill heated. Be prepare to wrap up warm but make sure to do it in style with our gorgeous scrap quilts by Paper Victoria.

Dried Flowers

Flowers are often quite expensive for something that lasts a short time. But imagine a bouquet that lasts up to two years, are low maintenance and add colour to any space. Dried flowers to the rescue. Pop them in your favourite mug, a gorgeous vase or that pint glass you pocketed during freshers. Even better, move them about every month and get your use out of these beautiful blooms.

Succulent Plant Pots

Fail at being green-fingered but want to have plants within your space? Get some succulents, and even better, get a funky plant pot to put them in. Fabric, ceramic, you name it, we have them. So when you’ve stocked up from one of Liverpool’s wonderful independent plant shops, head on over to get your new friend the pot it deserves.

Pin Badge Flag

Even if you’ve never collected badges before, with freshers and societies on the horizon, believe us, you will gain a big pool of them soon enough. Pick up a flag to display them in-between wears. With cute designs including ‘YNWA’ and ‘Kitchen Disco’ to simple plain ones, there’s something to fit everyone’s vibe.

Postcards

Missing home but texts and calls aren’t quite cutting it, pick up some postcards. Go the old-fashioned way and write out your feelings. It might be a lot more therapeutic than you’d first think. And it gives those back home a glimpse into your new life in a new city.

Suncatchers

The one positive of most university rooms being a bright white canvas, you have all of that space to fill with colour. And the easiest way to do it? Suncatchers. Simply hang one at the window and be prepared to have colour fill your space. With Cait Walker’s large range of designs, there are options for every colour palette.

Keyring

In your first few weeks, you will nearly lose your keys every few days. Get a few keyrings asap, it makes it a lot easier to find them. And reduces the risk of the ridiculous charge if you happen to lose them. From the funny Scouse Toilet Graffiti collection of fabric gems, we have it all.

Small Pot / Dish

Welcome to adulthood, where every night you empty your pockets of keys, coins and whatever other miscellaneous gems you’ve managed to acquire throughout the day. Get a dish asap and avoid the stress of trying to remember where your tired self put yesterday’s pile.
